Camp I Believe to be held Sept. 17

Last Updated: Friday, August 19, 2016

Camp I Believe will be held on Saturday, September 17, 2016, at Lakeshore Center at Okoboji, 1864 Hwy 86 in Wahpeton. This is a free camp for children and teens ages 7-17 who are grieving the death of a loved one.

The focus of Camp I Believe is on healing. All the activities - indeed, the entire camp experience - takes place in a safe, supportive and caring environment. But as a camp for kids, it's also fun, with a variety of outdoor activities.

A child's day at Camp I Believe includes:

  • Healing group activites with other children of the same age
  • Low-ropes and challenge courses
  • 3 to 1 Camper to Camp Counselor ratio
  • Participating in waterfront activities at the lake
  • Spending time with other children experiencing a similar loss
  • Three meals provided to all campers
  • Snacks and water provided throughout the day

Many of the children who come to camp attend for the opportunity to have fun and feel "normal" again. All activities, whether directly or indirectly, help campers to establish a sense of community and provide teambuilding opportunities; activities place an emphasis on personal growth through creative expression and through establishing positive relationships with peers.
