3 Vehicle Accident 7-21-17

On Friday July 21st, 2017 at around 10:28am, the DCSO responded to a three-vehicle accident at the intersection of Highway 9 and 310th Ave (N14).

Chad Moenck (40), of Fort Dodge, was stopped at the intersection of Highway 9 and 310th Avenue facing west.  Moenck was waiting to be able to turn south onto 310th Avenue.  Taylor Morris (17), of Estherville, was westbound on Highway 9 approaching Moenck’s vehicle.  Morris was unable to stop on the wet roadway and skidded into the rear of Moenck’s vehicle.  The rear end of Morris’ vehicle went into the eastbound lane and struck a vehicle driven by Amy Barajas (36), of Spencer.

Moenck was suspected of having minor/non-incapacitating injuries.  Moenck was transported to the hospital by ambulance.  Morris and Barajas were uninjured.

Moenck was driving a 2013 Chevrolet Malibu and the damage was estimated at $8,000.  Morris was driving a 2001 Toyota Corolla and the damage was estimated at $3,000.  Morris was cited for Fail to Stop in Assured Clear Distance.  Barajas was driving a 2008 Cadillac Escalade.

The DCSO was assisted by the Spirit Lake Police Department, Iowa State Patrol, Iowa DOT Motor Vehicle Enforcement, Superior Fire & Rescue, Lakes Regional Healthcare Ambulance, Bob’s Tow, and Cody’s Tow.  The Milford Fire Department was paged out for extrication but was told to disregard prior to their arrival.
