On August 12, 2017 at around 10:22am, the DCSO responded to a two-vehicle accident near the intersection of Highway 9 and Highway 71 (Jackson Y).  During the investigation, it was determined that Clay Williams (24), of Milford, was attempting to pass multiple vehicles going westbound on Highway 9.  While Williams was passing the vehicles, a truck pulling a boat was eastbound, and he sideswiped both the truck and boat.

Williams was arrested and charged with reckless driving, no valid insurance (accident related), and unsafe passing.  Williams’ vehicle was towed and an inventory of the vehicle was completed.

During the inventory, the deputy could smell an odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle.  A locked box was located in the vehicle.  The deputy then went and obtained a search warrant for the locked box.  When the deputy executed the search warrant, they located methamphetamine, LSD, and drug paraphernalia.

Williams was also charged with possession of a controlled substance (methamphetamine) with the intent to deliver, possession of a controlled substance (LSD) with the intent to deliver, and drug paraphernalia.

Williams is currently being held on a $10,000 bond.

The DCSO was assisted by Bob’s Repair and Tow of Spirit Lake.
