On March 8th, 2018, at around 5:51am, the DCSO responded to a two vehicle injury accident in the 2600 block of Highway 9.

Bruce Henningsen (63), of Estherville, was westbound on Highway 9 attempting to pass a vehicle in a no passing zone.  Henningsen then went back into the westbound lane when he seen a vehicle going eastbound.  Henningsen over corrected his vehicle causing him to lose control and cross back into the eastbound lane.  Henningsen was then struck by the other vehicle on the rear passenger side.  Henningsen was driving a 1996 Mercury Sable.  The second vehicle involved was operated by Douglas Brown (52), of Spirit Lake.  Brown’s wife was also a passenger in the vehicle.  Brown slowed down trying to avoid colliding with Henningsen.  Brown was driving a 2017 Kia Sorento.
