On December 31, 2014 at around 2:10pm the DCSO responded to a two vehicle personal injury accident in the 1700 block of 260th Avenue (M56).

Hope Tullis of Spirit Lake was stopped on the east side of the road to deliver mail.  Tullis was driving a 2009 Jeep Wrangler.  Valoris Johnson of Spirit Lake was northbound in a 2008 Chevrolet Silverado when he rear-ended Tullis causing both vehicles to go into the east ditch.  Tullis’ vehicle ended up on its side trapping her inside.  Tullis had to be freed by the jaws of life.

Both Tullis and Johnson were transported to the hospital with non-incapacitating injuries.

Damage to the Wrangler was estimated at $8,000 and the Silverado was estimated at $15,000.  Johnson was cited for failure to stop within the assured clear distance ahead.

The DCSO was assisted by Iowa DNR, Dickinson County Emergency Management, Spirit Lake Fire Department, Milford Fire Department, and the Lakes Regional Ambulance.
